I haven't tried it yet in BG2, but I have in IWD2 and it is very fun. For BG2, my friend and I are eventually (so many computer problems) going to have a multiplayer game where each of us use one character- Probably a kensai->mage and kensai->theif combo, but we may go with a fighter/mage and cleric/ranger combo as well.
