there is a known bug in the underdark when your [avoids spoiler] appearance had been changed (if you know what i mean) - it can cause problems that lead the screen to 'stutter' - is that it maybe?
iirc the 'ease-of-use' mod has a component to prevent your appearance changing on the screen which prevents this
