The others are correct--the way back into Suldanessellar is through the Forest of Tethir.

I assume you mean
Aran, not Elhan. You are most likely playing without first installing the BaldurDash patch, which fixes a lot of bugs, including a well-known one of Aran Linvail not knowing what chapter it is, and therefore speaking to him in Chapter 6 could send the entire party back to Spellhold again.
Make sure to install the official patch and BaldurDash before you begin your next game. If you have questions, just ask.
