Since you're soloing, a certain amount of cheese is allowed, but if you were doing a regular game I wouldn't even bother answering. Yes, I'm being supercilious here, I know.

You may want to use a Shield in the early game--go ahead and do so, but do NOT invest points in Sword & Shield Style. Ever. With anyone. They suck. Instead, once you start getting to decently high levels, slap the Defender of Easthaven into your offhand and keep it there. That, plus the roughly 20% resistances you'll get from Armor of Faith, plus the 40% resistances you'll be (very soon, considering you're soloing) getting from Hardiness, means that in the tougher battles, you'll be taking only 20% of the damage with each hit--who the hell needs a shield with that?

A legit Ranger/Cleric should have no problems. A solo Ranger/Cleric who's hacked to be able to have Grandmastery should definitely have no problems. If you do have problems despite all that, that's your own damn fault.
