I always give Minsc a two-handed sword, mainly because it means I can put a bow in his spare weapon slot, saving me from having to **** about with the inventory screen when I want to get a preliminary round in on an approaching enemy.
I also always give Minsc leather armour. Imoen's hide skill isn't good enough, Jan's points would be better spent on other skills, and neither Jan nor Imoen has a good enough THAC0 to do the stealth-sniper thing.
The advantage of a 2H sword with leather armour is the extra reach means Minsc doesn't have to go in the front row, so the lower AC doesn't really matter. I would rather use Keldorn or Korgan as a tank.
