On one of my trips through Beregost, I had Xan in my party. You know how when someone's talking, the blue circle at their feet turns white, and grows bigger & smaller? Well, my PC was wandering around town alone, when a nearby Chicken started clucking (white circle getting bigger & smaller). Xan chose that exact moment to give his "In the City" speech, so what I saw was a Chicken saying, "The bustle of the city makes me feel insignificant." DAMN! I thought I'd already DONE the Melicamp quest! lol
