No, that happens even in the original game, but very rarely. I was once going through there and found an Otyugh in that spot, and a party member happened to blunder southwestward and wake up the Sea Troll as well. And then, much to my surprise, a Beholder and 2 Gauths DD'd in. I was so shocked I took a screenshot.
