True. BG1 has no kits, and no Monk, Barbarian or Sorceror. But, if you really want to, you can create those classes by hacking: Take a general Mage (make sure his stats are valid Sorceror stats) and give him an extra spell slot for each level. Then, in the game, only allow yourself to learn 5 spells per level. Then take that Mage into BG2, and hack again to make yourself a Sorceror. I can't imagine how you could do that with a Monk, however.
But, of course, the main reason for playing BG1 first is that the PLOT is actually pretty darn cool! You actually experience suspense, and you're amazed how twisted the bad guy's plot really is! But if you've already played BG2, you learn all that in the opening movie. Talk about anticlimactic.
