Really? What spoiler would that be? Hank doesn't seem to have stated anything beyond what Xen posted in the very first sentence of the thread, "If you have SotM equipped you are invisible." In any case, I'm about to step beyond that by stating that so far Xen has only scratched the surface of the SotM cheese.
- Infinite Invisibility. Sure, it can be Dispelled or True Sighted, but all you have to do is re-equip the Staff. Enemy wastes a spell slot, you lose nothing. You don't even have to risk failing a Hide in Shadows roll.
- Permanent Invisibility. Casting defensive spells will not break the Invisibility, but casting white or red spells will....unless you start casting your spell, immediately Pause, then go into your Inventory and reequip the Staff. You will remain Invisible for the duration of the casting, no matter what it does.
- Waste Enemy Spells for free. Walk up to any enemy spellcaster except a Lich, Dragon, or Kou-Toa. Let him start to cast a spell at you, then reequip your Staff. Oh, darn, the bad guy can't finish his spell because his target's disappeared. I wonder if he'll keep doing that over and over until all his spells are gone?
What do
*I* use the Staff of the Magi for? Precisely this much: Permanent PfEvil and -2 bonuses to Saves and AC, the Spell Trap every now and then, and the Fireball-Lightning when I feel like it. I also use it like a stack of Invisibility Potions: If my Mage
needs to duck out of sight, he can, but that's the only thing he can do in that round. Essentially, the Staff frees up a Quickslot.
