Copperhead +2

Upon casual examination, this staff appears to have taken its moniker from the polished copper butt-caps adorning each end of the weapon, or perhaps from the rather serpentine manner in which the finely inlaid wires of the same metal trace up and down the length of the wood. But those educated in the lore of magical weaponry know that this staff was named long before it actually came into existence--it is in fact a physical representation of the "Sticks to Snakes" spell. In the hands of a Druid, the staff is not simply a useful polearm weapon: At the wielder's command, it will shapeshift into the form of an enormous serpent, slither out of the Druid's hands, and attack all enemies of its master.

As as Giant Snake, Copperhead is roughly equivalent to a Level 10 Fighter wielding a +2 enchanted Poison Dagger. Curiously, it has no summoning duration; it will serve the caster until slain, at which time it will return to its wooden form. As a staff, it has a 50/50 chance (depending on which end of the staff makes contact) to do a small amount of residual Poison damage to the victim of each hit. Also, the network of copper wires makes the staff into something of a lightning rod, deflecting away 20% of all electrical damage directed at the wielder.
