i have TOTSC installed without any patches and i have no problem finding the ring of wizardry and other hidden items. it has been awhile since i last played so i can only tell you where to find the wiz ring.
but i want you to do a little hunting yourself.

search around a tree to the south and a little to the east of the friendly arm inn. it will be there unless you have some goofy patch that eliminates it.
