Compare and contrast: FOA vs SoTM . Ages is quite a good weapon, yes, but Magi is better on the whole. Getting through stoneskin is one thing. Getting rid of stoneskin is better. Ages only real benifit over Magi is it's slow... but Magi has it's invisibility, and it's spell trap, and it's fireball-lightning.
Armour of the Heart vs. Robe of Vecna: Heart has better AC and from memory (haven't played through to where you get it in far too long, so I could be very wrong) not much else. Vecna makes you cast spells faster.

But one thing I do plan to do at some point, is to tone down SoTM and RoV a bit, and improve the Cleric's Staff + 3 to be, well, more Clericy than a generic Staff + 3 that glows blue...
