Just a quick thought regarding Julia's "Neutral Item". Perhaps you could plant a component on her that would provide an upgrade for the Equalizer sword - and then maybe characters would actually KEEP the sword instead of selling it or the components. 
Maybe the upgrade could make it +4 (with regards to hit) and add immunity to mental domination and fear.
