One way to placate the Fist is to use a certain Cloak against them. I'm told that the duration of the spell doesn't run out for 1000 game hours (or something like that), which should give you plenty of time to finish all the quests you're interested in.

Other items to get: Cloak of Balduran, Short Sword of Backstabbing, Battleaxe+2, Tomes of Clear Thought, Understanding, & Quickness of Action.
