I'd suggest the Kensai/Mage (or a fighter/mage). It's well worth the try if you've never done it before.
For a challenge you could try a sorcerer

(though the assassins at Friendly Arm Inn could get ugly) or a monk like I did.
You know, I guess now I'll really pick up that sleeping monk of evil again
