Elminster sounds like a bit of a wimp when he has to fall back on "well, I have bigger friends than CHARNAME." The closest anyone's come to answering the original poster's question is when Illumina mentioned Spellfire & Butterfingers brought up Raistlin's powers.
*Given the rules of the contest*, my money would probably be on Raistlin. Sure, Elminster's powerful, but he says he wouldn't take on the PC near the end of ToB. Raistlin, however, is as (maybe more) godlike as CHARNAME, but with all the other resources Butterfingers mentioned at his disposal ("10 extra spells per level and can control the flow of time, as well as warp spell effects on a whim "), I think he'd pull out the win in, oh let's say 37 rounds.
