This riddle is very old, is it not? It's not always your sibling specified in the riddle, though. It's sort of a given that the one you are to save is someone you love. Then I press the button.
Remember, that your "Imoen has a good heart" argument doesn't really hold water. There's no way to communicate. It's a mind game. You might think, "Imoen will assume that I'm pressing the button, so she won't. But then she won't want to live with that so she'll press it. So I won't." and all sorts of second-guessing yourself.
For me, it's easy.
Would I be able to live with sacrificing someone I love for my own life? No.
Would I really want to live with that kind of loss AND being responsible for their death? No.
Do I even KNOW what they're going to do? No.
Therefore, I press the button. If they live, great. If not, then we will be together in death.
