I think this is what you're trying to do:
1)Export you're BG1 Character.
2)Move the character file (in the folder BG1/characters)to the BG2 character folder ( BG2/characters).
3)Start a new game and choose to import a character. You're character should be there.
4)Redistribute certain aspects of you're character because much has changed since BG1.
5)Start playing and have fun.
