There's no reason why you shouldn't want the patch. It fixes so many things in the game that it's essential to have. You should also get the SoA fixpack (only if you have SoA) or get the ToB Fixpack (only if you have ToB installed, don't install both of these fixpacks). Some parts of the game (like romances) can't be completed with out the patch.
