My *guess* is that the time reflected in the save game screen reflects the amount of game time that has elapsed since you started the game with that particular character.
The date/time stamp in the journal reflects the game's "real life" time.

For instance suppose the date and time when you first started the game with your freshly-rolled character is Apr 1 0800. In the save game screen that would be Day 1 Hour 0 but in the journal it would be Apr 1 0800 (or whatever the D&D equivalent of April is).
