Well let's see:

It's not an illusion, no doubt about that .
It's not evocation/invocation: it's not a stationary spell (although it sort of looks like it when you cast it), the caster is not calling upon their God to help them out, and the caster is not creating materials (like Melf's Acid Arrows) to shoot at his/her enemies.
It's not abjuration because it's not a protection spell.
It's not alteration because, well, I don't know why. I'd think it could possibly be this since it changes the condition of a creature.
It's not enchantment/charm b/c it's not changing a character's attitude (unless he dies from it [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) and it doesn't give magical properties to items.
It's not divination because the caster is not learning hidden secrets.

Which leaves Necromancy. It could be necromancy because it deals with the vitality of living creatures, like many of the other spells. But it's affect mathes no other class except necromancy and alteration.
