Edwin's Lore is hacked (the only NPC who can beat him is Haer'Dalis), so he really doesn't need Identify all that often, and even then he can still use the Glasses of Identification. Plus there are all those Identify scrolls that can be used by your backup Wizard, or Thief with UAI.
