Well, the only way(s) to "dump" a Stronghold is to fail in the various missions assigned to you. You get a real bad-mouthing from everyone involved, and walk off feeling like a loser. But that's not what matters: What matters is whether losing your Stronghold will set the "PLAYERHASSTRONGHOLD" variable back to 0. But I'm afraid I can't provide you with the answer to that, as I don't know.

It *may* be possible, for instance, for a Multiclassed Fighter/Thief to get the Thief Stronghold, do the quests, and then fail to pay the dues, thus losing the Thief stronghold.....and then go clear the de'Arnise Keep and accept the Fighter stronghold. Then again, it may not.

But that won't help you, because you're playing a Ranger/Cleric, and R/C's are notoriously tweaky in some aspects--one of which is that they cannot get the Cleric Stronghold, no matter how holy they are or what order you do quests in. A side effect of this is that when it's time to tell Minister Lloyd that you've completed the Temple Ruins quests, he does not ask you if you want to be the town's Ranger--he just forces it on you, like it or not.
