Many thanks again, all! Just to seal this up: sure enough, both of them had snuck downstairs without me. It turns out that I was concerned for nothing, as that particular battle was surprisingly easy; I'd thought I'd be in deeper trouble since I always have so much trouble with vampires. (It may have to do with that little wavey-arm-dance-thing the female vamps do. Just plain weird.)
