I had a similar problem this summer. My PC was running close to max. CPU temperature and Baldur's Gate would push him over the edge. Since you're from Australia I assume you've got summer now and CPU overheating may well be the problem. Look up your Mainboard sensors or install MotherBoardMonitor to check your CPU temperature. If it really is too high then either get a better cooling system or try software cooling (e.g. CPUidle).

if not I don't think it's an appropriate joke/statement (unless you're referring to the philosophy professor at Berlin's Humboldt university ).
