Tip #1: This thread should have been started in the BG2 forum.

Tip #2: You can't actually get back to Athkatla until you beat the whole Sphere quest. And in order to beat the Sphere quest, you need to exit the Sphere. Trust me. Look at the pool of water if you don't believe me.
