***The Slayer has 25 STR, DEX, and CON, and is in a berserk state which prevents stun, hold, imprisonment, and a few other things. However, if the PC stays as the slayer too long, he/she will take damage until death. The message screen will warn you if you've stayed as the slayer too long. There are a few situations in the game where being the Slayer might be helpful, but not necessary. I've played several games where the PC didn't have to turn into the Slayer.***
