BG - greater story, better atmosphere, far more immersive.

BGII - far superior graphics, less buggy, more options, better gameplay.

So, when it's about 'just playing' , play BGII
If it's about 'exploring a world', play BGI

Also, I think BGI is balanced way better... I get too powerful way too early even WITH Tactics...
