Sounds like a bug with the ranger/cleric; maybe when you went to Imnesvale it locked you into the "ranger" path, even though you didn't talk to anyone. It may consider going to Imnesvale as "acceptance", which would really suck. You should have been approached by the Lathander priest, not the Helm priest. I had a dual-classed Fighter/Cleric (fighter levels reactivated) that was approached by the Lathander priesthood, but the key was that I had not gone to Nalia's keep yet. The one time I played a ranger/cleric I took the ranger stronghold, so to be honest I couldn't give you full info on it. But that still bites either way; there is no reason you should not be able to join the Lathander temple.
