Okay, here's what happens:
Sleeping with Aerie doesn't terminate the romance. BUT, Bioware coded the morning-after dialogue in such a way that if you didn't do the HD love triangle to completion, there's only one way to get the romance to continue in TOB--one of the four dialogue choices, and it's not terribly intuitive.
I consider this a bug, so the flirt pack patches that morning after so that the romance goes to Active=2 regardless and continues in TOB. It simply strikes me as unlikely that they really meant to do what they did.
(The HD love triangle actually sets Active=2 EARLIER in the romance.)
