News flash: the wealthy figured out how to buy the government and use changes in government policy over the course of years to funnel money to themselves, all on borrowed money. The people paying 36% taxes now who the Republicans are fighting so hard for face the threat of having their highest tax rate go up to 39%.

Prior to Reagan their highest rate was 90%. How we thought (or rather, how Reagan thought) we could cut the tax rate for the wealthy by 1/2 without having to give up services is beyond my understanding. And now here we are decades later on the horns of a dilemma. The lost revenue has bankrupted us, trickle down didn't work, and now we face the choice of cutting government services, raising taxes sharply, or continuing to borrow with wanton abandon hoping that China won't call in our loans and foreclose on our country.
Of course it's more complicated. But does the OP really care? C'mon.
