LOL...I would say most DC politicians have been acting "counter to the public trust" for many years now. That is nothing new.

Mems and Firestormalpha both gave good responses about the failure of the 9/11 first responders bill being the fault of both parties in the other thread. EACH side was more interested in scoring political points than actually passing the bill.

Repubs wanted to shove in a ridiculous amendment about illegal immigration.

Dems didn't want to face the risk of their vote on the amendment being used as political fodder, so they introduced the bill under a procedure requiring a 2/3 majority vote when they only have a 58.9% voting majority.

So (potential) campaign mudslinging DID play a major role in defeating this bill and the end result makes BOTH sides look foolish.
