If he just went to look up his love he should be upstairs in the Jansen home.
IIRC you have the chance to stall him nd accompany him to his home after finishing whatever quest you're at.
I know Jan's quest is a drag (lots of errands) but he's a pretty useful fellow so it would be a shame if you had lost him.
