If I undestood the discussion concerning items correctly, a "regular" item could more or less fully replace a special item (the player can even be prevented from dropping it) as event trigger.
The difference is that the special item will remain in the party independently of NPCs joining and leaving, while a "regular" item is bound to the character carrying it.

Another question: Is there any possibility to force an NPC to wear clothes and ready weapons before he/she enters the party? I have not found such an option in the NPC editor...
