Preach it, brother. Amen.
Although a small amount of warning is useful, I find, when you're running your first trip through a game . . . if nothing else, it's good to have a list of those quests/areas from which you cannot retreat: The only way back out to the rest of the game is to beat the quest or area. Unfortunately, Balduran's Isle is in fact one of those areas, and it's not for the timid, either.
Specific advice: I don't have any, both because I hate spoilers and because I haven't been to that part of the game in years--I don't find it fun, so I almost always just skip it.
General advice: If you have room to run around, try drawing the bad guys off one at a time, or use a Hasted and/or Invisible character to separate them. If you absolutely must fight groups of them at a time, that's what area-of-effect spells are for. If you're having trouble, use any buffing spells or potions you have available. Some creatures can only be harmed by weapons of a certain enchantment level (or higher)--you will absolutely NEED some of these weapons, in the hands of people who know how to use them.
