Interrupt it, kill him. Other than that, you need to keep your fingers crossed, I guess. Go after him first. Which mage is the one of which you speak? It all depends on his protections. If it's Stoneskin, go for elemental damage, or Breach. I'd breach him, then play whack-a-mage.
