That would be on the assumption they are anything like us. Chances are they don't view us as anything, or make no spiritual, mental, physical or technological advances in any way we'd recognise. They might not be intelligent or think in our manner, they might not be detectable or able to detect us. Could be the aliens are rolled up in other dimensions, lack any use for morals, applaud our warlike tendencies. They might not be bipedal, possessed of opposable thumbs, or in need of spacecraft. Nothing says they're carbon based either.
It could be we are the extraterrestrials, they are former earthlings, or that they're robots - though perhaps crafted by other aliens who may or may not be like the above.
I'd say it wouldn't make sense for beings in a different environment to develop in an identical manner, but then what do I know about life on other planets - or wherever they live. If they live...
