I've recently become more involved with the thieving class, and I was wondering about something and this is really bugging me. I had a thief in a previous game that had a Hide in Shadows score off 100, and combined with the Boots of Stealth, she could hide in broad daylight. So what I'm wondering is can thieves not use the Hide in Shadows skill while in a fight? Because mine never seemed to even in the black of the Underdark
