Oh yes, he certainly could have sold it, but it's more likely that he wasn't even
interested in your puny +2 weapons, and just gave it to his henchmen in lieu of payment. Try watching the intro movie again: "They came as you rested, shadows blurring the lines between consciousness and dream....there is no malice or hatred, no mention of an old score, only quick capture, and the promise of grim deeds to come." Yep, all your gear was stripped from you, but don't worry, you'll meet up with quite a lot of it once again in your travels. Psychopath-boy gives it to his goons, and the goons either keep it (and you kill them and get it back), or they sell it to a store (and you visit the store and get it back), or to somebody else (and you kill
them and get it back).

Watch my intuitive train of thought: "cheater" = "cheetah" = tiger = picture corresponding to the Wand of Monster Summoning. There are a total of 6 Wand Keys, and they're all inside the dungeon. Check all the containers and corpses you can find, including the Otyugh. The only other keys in there are the key to Jaheira's cell (it vanished after you used it), and the Portal Key (which is the one that you can't throw away).
