I think you need a +3 or better weapon. Most of my characters have +2 weapons, and they were largely ineffective. My assassin does have a +3 dagger, but there is now way I'm gonna be able to take an Adamantium Golem down with one puny dagger.

So it was Jaheira and her Reflection Shield to the rescue.
