I must have been getting my Tolkein mixed up with my AD&D.
As for the NPCs I'd love to see- pretty much anybody from the Forgotten Realms: Elminster, Blackstaff, the Seven Sisters, Driz'zt, Bruenor Battlehammer, etc.
The Avatars: anybody from the Forgotten Realms, Norse, Egyptian or Greco-Roman pantheons would be smashing.
