In my first encounter with Kuriosan, my party died very quickly and very often. I was playing a dual Wizard Slayer/Thief and I had tried just having him draw Kuriosan's fire and run around until his pre-cast spells wore off. That never did work well, although it did provide a humorous show. I faced him in Waukeen's Promenade and we spent several minutes running up and down the stairs above the Adventurer's Mart. It looked like a 3 Stooges skit.
I finally managed to kill him very easily after using my Thief ability to Set Traps. I spiked an area with as many traps as I could and then unsheathed Celestial Fury. I was hoping to have him run into the traps, but Fate dealt an even better hand...he teleported in right in the middle of my little minefield and took an excessive amount of damage before he could cast the first protection spell. Since I was high level, I had spike traps and others that Slowed him. He was ridiculously easy to beat without all his protections up.
Since I'm playing an assassin this time, I'm making it a point to set traps of my own in certain key areas BEFORE having encounters there. It just makes sense that an assassin would have certain "booby trap" areas prepared in case the authorities or other powerful figures ever gave chase to him.
I've got an area near my Thieve's Guild already waiting for Kuriosan (or anybody else) that shows up to threaten me.
