This may seem mean, but if you want to survive lvl 14 don't faff around with multi-classed spell-casters. Even my cleric got body-bagged dozens of times.
I might've been tempted by the Barbarian/wizard/Pale Master option, forget the cleric bit. There are some juicy stat increases for pale masters. Watch out for your base attack bonus up to lvl 20, fighter types get +1 per lvl others don't! And don't forget those extra skill points at first lvl.
