Windows has a thing called the registry, among other things it keeps track of data for 3rd party programs like baldurs gate. So when setup starts, the first thing it does is ask windows "am I installed", windows checks the database and says "yes", and since youve actualy deleted BG we have a problem.
Its possible to use start->run->regedit to repair the damage, easier just to run the setup.exe straight from the CD which works for baldurs gate but not for all games.
Lesson: Always uninstall properly, that will let windows keep the registry up to date and prevern this kind of problem in future. Although BG does have a bug with that IIRC. Ah well, such is life.
