Well, my rep was 17 and I ended up getting Vampiric Touch, which I think means it must have dropped to at least 8... It's a lot. I should say though that in one version of the game where I did not take on a particular fight my rep somehow remained intact. But I think that may have been a bug. I think the game is scripted for your rep to drop.
