There is the thing that happens to a small percentage of kids between the ages of 3 and 12, but it mostly hits girls. My wife said she had it and so did all her sisters, where her legs would hurt bad enough to wake her up crying from sleep when she was a kid. Now my six year old (girl) wakes up sometimes with the same thing. I was thinking that it is a hereditory thing, but I have found no proof of that.
Here are a couple references in the event that any of you have or will have a baby girl someday.

Was not a baby.
Was never a girl.
Still got them over the course of three to five years. More than likely between the ages of 7 and 11. In high school I only grew five inches, but gained fifty pounds. (5'10" and 135 lbs to 6'3" and 185 lbs. current total weight is 240 lbs for statement of example.)
And yes, I actually DO have stretchmarks on slight parts of my arms AND legs. None of that from weight gain.
If your kids get that, just let them know it should stop sometime. For "growing pains," mine were definitely sporadic at best, striking me at odd hours of the night but not more than three days running, and not more than twice in a twenty-eight day period. In some ways, I was very fortunate.
