Never actually finished that game.

Heh. Funny, I used Anomen's portrait for my first cavalier and the game assigned Ajantis portrait to Anomen. It gave a finishing touch to him, I mean that self-righteous look on that portrait fitted to Anomen's character perfectly. And I used Long Swords and Shields too (I did't know about the Carsomyr back then and I played IWD before, where long sword Pale Justice was THE weapon for pallies) [/QUOTE]I'm apparently not only in the Ranger-Archer club, but also in the club of people that used an existing PC's picture. But hey, my character concept was a human native American type named Tornado, and what turned out to be Cernd's portrait fit my concept perfectly. I may have started the game with other characters first, but he was the first I emerged from Irenicus's dungeon with, and he's the one I first finished SOA with.
Usually when I play CRPG's for the first time, I test the waters with several characters, or parties if that's how the game works, before selecting one to play the game through with. I'm fairly sure a Monk was my next-closest candidate for the first game, but I think the curve was a little too steep for me as a first character.
