Shamrock, I think it's mostly a cashflow issue.
And this sort of thing can get pricey. There'll be the office visit fee, any antibiotics or other in office treatment and probably some antibiotics/other meds he'll have to administer at home and depending on how serious it is (with cats you can't tell just from looking most times- infections can be very deep and not appear as serious as they are) the cat may need a follow-up visit.
