Well ok then, modify a_decent_1's generalisation slightly - we love dealing death.

The 20th century was characterised by the development of ever more impersonal ways of doing it from the production line slaughter of the Holocaust to satellite-guided cruise missiles.

If there's one constant in human history it is that we kill each other. Furthermore, it seems that as the world becomes more civilized, the rate at which we do this only increases.

We may not love fighting anymore, but we just find ways to kill each other without needing to.
