I'm actually between Aoshi and Shougo.

Aoshi was cool just as Kakero described. Also, it was very nice when he started dual-wielding swords.

Shougo, on the other hand, was this badass unbeatable christian dude who was even more powerful than Kenshin(aside from one *cough* error).

Unfortunately, I've never had the pleasure of reading the manga, but rather I watched the series, so I don't know if he is in the manga or not. here's some info on him(Could spoil slightly)

To make things slightly more even, and since he might be a character who wasn't originally in the manga at all, I decided to vote for Shougo.
